Installing your ERP System
Modern ERP Systems like Epicor
Vantage, Epicor
Vista, and DBA
Software (classic) have excellent
physical installation programs that do a fine
job of installing your ERP software...for a
trained IT person, that is. Before the installation
there are many considerations that should be
evaluated. Some of them include:
- Should I install on a Network, or for DBA
users Peer-to-Peer?
- Windows 2000/3 Server, Novell, Linux, Terminal
Services, Citrix?
- Is the Server computer ERP worthy? Is a
separate Server warranted? What will the ERP
system do to my existing network operation?
- Where on the hard drive should I install
the ERP system?
- If I am running Terminal Services or Citrix,
should I set up the installation differently
for higher efficiency?
- Can I install ODBC
capability?
- If I am upgrading from a prior version,
can I set up the installation to limit the
necessary changes to existing reports, custom
software, etc?
- Can I manage the Server from my home or
must I come into the office?
- What about user rights? Can any user go
into Windows Explorer and inadvertently wipe
out all my ERP data?
- Have I tuned the ERP server to run most
efficienctly for MY conditions?
- Do I have a backup
plan? Is my ERP data
backed up while it is running?
- What about virus detection programs? Do
they affect ERP systems?
Once you install an ERP system and begin to
use it, it is very difficult to make changes.
If you do not have an IT department or just
feel more comfortable having someone with experience
handle the installation, give us a call.
